Challenge

As part of the 2009 State Budget, the NSW Government wanted to promote how it would spend $62bn in infrastructure projects via its portal at NSW.gov.au. During a tight two-week timeline, PreviousNext was engaged to lead the Drupal development tasks for the main portal that integrated project content with the Google Maps interface.

Solution

PreviousNext led the NSW Government through a transition process from an old proprietary content management system to Drupal. By using open source technology there was a $100K+ cost saving on licensing fees, which enabled more resources to be focused on customised development. The rest of the NSW.gov.au backend has since been migrated to Drupal as part of an ongoing engagement.

Outcome

In a sector where flexibility is vital, adopting Drupal has given the NSW Government the ability to respond more quickly and efficiently to the needs of its constituency. The new website can be enhanced and modified quickly and an internal team within the Government has full control over the content management. We've since been able to use the core installation of the main portal and apply this across other Government department websites, and also deploy a large number of enhancements to the core site.
