Medical Observer - A Social News Platform

In early 2015, the healthcare division of Cirrus Media engaged PreviousNext for the redevelopment of their Medical Observer website on a Drupal platform.

Based in Sydney, Cirrus Media is Australia’s largest B2B media company and magazine publisher, distributing some of the biggest and best industry magazines in the country. Medical Observer is a leading healthcare publication owned by Cirrus Media and for almost 30 years, their journalists and doctors have provided readers with the most important developments in clinical practice, research and politics.

Challenge

Targeted at Australian doctors, the Medical Observer website aims to provide the most up-to-date medical news, social networking tools and a centralised hub where registered health practitioners are able to share and connect with their peers. In order to build and sustain such a connected online community, Cirrus Media wanted to move the existing Medical Observer site onto the Drupal platform for increased flexibility and content management functionality, requiring a responsive site that would offer a clear and simple registration process for new users and enable easier access across multiple devices.

Solution

With the adoption of Agile development processes, stakeholders were encouraged to have daily contact with the PreviousNext development team, engaging closely throughout the project to ensure release schedules and budget targets would be met. PreviousNext migrated the existing site content and all registered users onto the Drupal platform and the new Medical Observer website now boasts greater functionality and networking capability, with advanced search technology, social media integration and content delivered in a news-style format which is tailored to suit the interests and reading habits of individual users.

Outcome

With a completely fresh look and feel, the new Medical Observer site was launched successfully in July 2015 and stands as a fitting example of a successful agile, style guide driven development project. PreviousNext continue to work closely with the Cirrus Media team through their transition to Drupal with a view to further collaborate on projects in the future.
