Sport and Recreation

A New Drupal Site for the NSW Government Office of Sport

Sport and Recreation, run by the NSW Government Office of Sport, offers a range of services and support to promote active and healthy lifestyles for NSW residents. Each year they provide grants, nurture sporting talent, build sporting facilities, run & regulate events and promote the development of the sports industry. In late 2014 the Office of Sport engaged PreviousNext for the redesign and development of their Sport and Recreation website in Drupal.

Challenge

The Office of Sport wished to move from their static site and build out their new site using the Drupal content management system. In terms of functionality, the new Sport and Recreation website needed to showcase events across NSW, recreational venues and facilities and resources aimed at promoting active and healthy lifestyles. The intention was to create an engaging website that was easy to navigate and accessible to all users.

Solution

PreviousNext worked collaboratively with the Office of Sport to refine the project scope, content strategy, information architecture, visual web design and Drupal site development to align with their strategic direction. We migrated their existing site content onto aGov, the open source Drupal distribution developed for Australian Government organisations, and designed a custom theme to focus on user engagement. This site was then integrated with Sport and Recreation's event booking systems and the internal team trained to manage the site in preparation for launch.

Outcome

The completion of this project saw the delivery of a new, fully responsive, WCAG 2.0AA compliant website. Our approach provided the Office of Sport with a very efficient and cost effective method of moving their Sport and Recreation site onto Drupal. Moving to the Drupal platform made content easier to manage by their internal team whilst updating the design provided a fresh and engaging experience for visitors to the site. This has resulted in a significant increase in event bookings since launch.
